“Turkey Bowlâ€, one of the hits of the March South By Southwest festival has scored a distribution deal with Tribeca Films and will be hitting screens this summer.
Tribeca Films announced May 9, that it had gained the US and Canada distribution rights for “Turkey Bowl†– a quirky comedy directed by Kyle Smith who displayed one of the most impressive breakout debuts at the South By Southwest fest.
The comedy, which unfolds in real time is set in Los Angeles and centers on Jon (Jon Schmidt) who gathers 10 friends together every summer to play the Turkey Bowl – bringing a taste of his small hometown to the urban expanse – for the illustrious prize of a…turkey.
Over the course of the Turkey Bowl friendships flare and fizzle, jealousy is met with both laughter and pain, and old and unrequited love threatens to remain old and unrequited. The movie follows the nuances and grooves that mark our closest friendships and the crevices that sometimes unhinge them with warmth, precision and a lot of laughs along the way.
“Turkey Bowl†will be released in late June by Tribeca Films. Tribeca Enterprises Chief Creative Officer, Geoffrey Gilmore said: “We are incredibly pleased to be bringing the debut from a talented young director, Kyle Smith, to audiences. “Turkey Bowlâ€is a very special film with a spot on depiction of sports and friendships.â€
“Turkey Bowl†was produced by Kyle Smith and Stephen Paratore and stars Kerry Bishé, Zoe Perry, Zeke Hawkins and Tom DiMenna.
