ABC Family announced today the acquisition of the film â€œPirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tidesâ€ from Walt Disney Pictures. The deal provides ABC Family with the first-window rights to the network premiere which is scheduled for 2013.
Tom Zappala, executive VP of ABC described the film â€œas one of this summerâ€™s most highly-anticipated moviesâ€ since the audiences love the world-known franchise that is thrilled with excitement, charm and good fun. In addition to the first three â€˜Pirates of the Caribbeanâ€™ films Zappala mentioned that â€˜ABC are thrilled to add this installmentâ€™.
The film will be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Rob Marshall, a film that grabs the fun, adventure and humor that made the franchise famous around the world, but this time in Disney Digital 3Dâ„¢. Johnny Depp will return to his role of Captain Jack Sparrow alongside the enigmatic Angelica (PenÃ©lope Cruz). He is not really sure if itâ€™s love in question or just a hidden agenda to reach the Fountain of Youth, so his doubts and fear are expected when he boards the Queen Anneâ€™s Revenge, the ship of the legendary pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane). From the international cast the movie will present vets Geoffrey Rush as the vengeful Captain Hector Barbossa and Kevin R. McNally as Captain Jackâ€™s longtime friend, Joshamee Gibbs, plus Sam Claflin as a missionary and Astrid BergÃ¨s-Frisbey as a mysterious mermaid.
