Summer is just around the corner and that means a whole lot of new shows coming to light. One of the first shows of the blocks is State of Georgia, which lands on screens Wednesday, June 29 at 8:30pm E.T.
According to ABC, State of Georgia, is an all-new original, half-hour multi-cam comedy series starring Raven-Symoné as Georgia, an aspiring actress with a larger-than-life personality, and her science geek best friend, Jo (Majandra Delfino), who are trying to make professional and personal headway in New York City.
The series also stars Loretta Devine (Grey’s Anatomy, Jumping the Broom) as Aunt Honey. State of Georgia will follow the summer return of the network’s hit comedy series, Melissa & Joey at 8:00PM ET/PT.
Georgia, a brash, confident Southern twenty-something who follows her dreams to New York City to pursue acting. To make ends meet, she works various part-time jobs, accompanied by her best friend and roommate, Jo. Cute, but socially awkward, Jo has anxiety issues and lives for science. She, too, has ambitious dreams – to get into the Physics department at a leading university.
Loretta Devine stars as Aunt Honey, Georgia’s sultry, southern aunt who allows Georgia and Jo to rent the downstairs of her lavish apartment while they’re in New York pursuing their dreams. With her words of wisdom and fascinating stories about her many ex-husbands, Aunt Honey helps to keep Georgia and Jo on track while in the city.
An ABC Studios Production, State of Georgia will be executive-produced by Kirk J. Rudell and Jennifer Weiner, author of the best-selling novels Good in Bed and In Her Shoes. The pilot was directed by Ted Wass and was written by Jennifer Weiner & Jeff Greenstein.
ABC is kicking butt with programming lately having seen The Middle and Modern Family break out in recent seasons. Hopefully this latest offering will also make the grade.
